The Rockland Trust Charitable Foundation was founded in 2005 as the Benjamin Franklin Bank Charitable Foundation. The Foundation name was amended by the Board of Directors in 2009 shortly after Rockland Trust's acquisition of Benjamin Franklin Bank. The Rockland Trust Charitable Foundation continues to provide support for qualified non-profit charitable causes in 14 communities previously served by Benjamin Franklin Bank.

Since its formation, the Foundation has contributed more than $1 million dollars in grants to non-profit organizations in the communities of Bellingham, Blackstone, Foxborough, Franklin, Hopedale, Medfield, Medway, Mendon, Milford, Millis, Newton, Norfolk, Waltham, and Wrentham.

In 2010 the Rockland Trust Charitable Foundation presented grants totaling $225,577 to qualified organizations committed to:

Education: Initiatives at the primary, secondary and post-secondary levels that raise the aspirations of students and educational institutions within the community and promote programs that enhance knowledge in specific areas such as economics, communications, technology, business, and public speaking, as well as initiatives that enhance the dissemination of information necessary to support the education process. In addition, the Rockland Trust Charitable Foundation granted 11 college scholarships.

Health and Human Services: Programs that are essential to the underlying medical care and social well-being of people living in the community, including initiatives that focus on meeting the basic needs of community members in all age categories, as well as supporting the physical and mental wellness of these members.  

Youth programs: Programs that assist in improving the quality of life for children and young adults in our community or programs that foster education, learning, or leadership.  

Community development: Community improvement and economic development activities and programs that improve the quality of life, economic vitality, and general well-being of our communities, including support of affordable housing and other specialized housing projects.
