Answers to questions about your new chip-enabled debit card
Q. What is chip technology and why is it more secure?
A. When you use your new card at a chip-enabled terminal or an ATM, the embedded chip generates a unique transaction code that is shared with the merchant- making it virtually impossible for a fraudster to access or reuse your account information.
Q. How does a chip card work?
Q. When can I expect to receive my new Rockland Trust Debit Card?
A. Rockland Trust will be reissuing all Gold and Business Debit Cards in September 2016 regardless of the current cards expiration date.
In January 2017, Rockland Trust will begin to reissue chip cards to all debit card account holders.
Q. Will my new card have the same benefits?
A. Yes, you will continue to enjoy the same benefits as your current Rockland Trust Debit Card and will gain enhanced security.
Q. Can a chip card be used in a magnetic stripe terminal?
A. Yes, if the terminal is not yet chip-enabled, you can swipe your card’s magnetic stripe as you always have. For online and phone purchases, you can still place orders the same way you do today.
Q. How will I know whether to swipe or insert?
A. If you’re uncertain, swipe your card. If the terminal is chip-enabled it will prompt you to insert the card instead.
