Rockland Trust Launches Expanded 2013 College Scholarship Program

Invites Schools in former Central Bank Markets to Participate

ROCKLAND, Mass. (January 23, 2013) - Rockland Trust today announced the launch of its 2013 Rockland Trust Scholarship program for high school students entering college for the first time as a freshman this year. Rockland Trust is offering six $2,500 scholarships to students based on academic accomplishment and community service. Students in Plymouth, Barnstable, and Bristol counties, and in the towns of Cohasset, Stoughton, Weymouth, Randolph, Braintree, Quincy, Wellesley, Watertown, Somerville, Medford, Malden, Arlington, Woburn, Melrose, Burlington, and Chestnut Hill are eligible to participate in the program.

In addition with the recent acquisition of Central Bank by Independent Bank Corp. (NASDAQ: INDB), parent of Rockland Trust Company, Rockland Trust is expanding its scholarship program to schools in the markets served by Central Bank. High school students from the following districts are now invited to apply: Arlington, Burlington, Malden, Medford, Melrose, Somerville and Woburn.

Rockland Trust also provides scholarships through the Rockland Trust Charitable Foundation Scholarship, which awards ten $2,500 scholarships to high school students in the MetroWest region. Scholarship winners are selected by The Rockland Trust Charitable Foundation and a committee formed by the principal of each school. Selection is based on academic achievement, community involvement, character and financial need. Students interested in applying should contact their school Guidance Department. Applications will be accepted by the Guidance Department at each school based on the school's scholarship program calendar. Participating schools include, Bellingham High School, Blackstone Valley Technical High School, Foxboro High School, Franklin High School, Medfield High School, Milford High School, Newton North High School, Learning Prep School, Tri County Vocational High School, and Waltham High School. Award recipients will be notified by June 1.
