Rockland Trust Pledges $10,000 to Build the New Rockland Senior Center

ROCKLAND, Mass. (June 4, 2013) - Rockland Trust today announced a $10,000 donation to the Rockland Senior Center in a five-year pledge to help build a new facility for the town's seniors and the Council on Aging. From services including "Meals on Wheels" and blood pressure checks to activities such as Bingo and a book club, the Rockland Senior Center plays an important role in keeping the community's seniors active, happy, and healthy, among many other services. The new facility will be located at 317 Plain Street.

"Rockland Trust is pleased to have the opportunity to help our neighbors at the Senior Center and the community of Rockland," said Thomas Banks, First Vice President and District Manager at Rockland Trust. "This new Center will provide Rockland's seniors with the assistance and activities they need to live enriching lives."

The Rockland Senior Center currently shares a 3,000-square-foot space in a 106-year-old former school at 394 Union Street with several other town programs. The new building, which will be complete in March 2014, will be 9,000 square-feet to accommodate Rockland's growing senior population and the increasing demand for the Center's resources. In 2012, the Rockland Senior Center serviced more than 8,000 seniors and served more than 7,300 "Meals on Wheels."

"All of our programs at the Rockland Senior Center are made possible by donations and dedicated volunteers," said John Rogers, Chairman of the Senior Center Building Committee and Council on Aging Board Member. "Last year we served thousands of seniors in the community. With this generous donation from our friends at Rockland Trust and the support of the Town of Rockland, we will be able to provide even more assistance and resources to those in need."

In addition to senior programs, the Center supports non-seniors seeking food stamps and fuel assistance. The Center also has tax preparation programs, minor health services, and helps the homeless and those at risk of homelessness find shelter.
