Rockland Trust to Support Franklin Food Pantry with $43,200 Rental Agreement Donation

Bank Renews 3,600-Square-Foot, Rent-Free Lease in Franklin; Donates $13,750 to Food Banks in Southeastern Massachusetts

ROCKLAND, Mass. (June 5, 2013) - Rockland Trust today announced its continued support of the Franklin Food Pantry with a $43,200 donation to renew the pantry's rent-free lease for the fifth consecutive year. The food pantry, which provides between 2,600 and 3,200 pounds of food to area residents each week, has been a vital resource within the community for more than 20 years. In addition to providing the Franklin Food Pantry with rent-free space, Rockland Trust recently concluded a month-long food drive throughout its entire service area in Massachusetts, including its new Metro North communities, and Greater Providence. As part of the food drive, which ran throughout the month of April, the bank also donated more than $13,750 to local food banks.

"At Rockland Trust, we know how important it is to give back to our communities," said Laurel Katsaros, Branch Manager of Rockland Trust's Main Street location in Franklin. "We are honored to be involved with such a great organization and proud to help the Franklin Food Pantry provide for those in need."

Rockland Trust first leased the building at 43 West Central Street, which is in the same plaza as the bank's Franklin Main Street branch, on the Franklin Food Pantry's behalf in 2009, when the pantry lost its previous space in the town. Since that time, the bank has donated more than $215,000 in rent-free space.

"Without Rockland Trust, there would be no food pantry," said Erin Lynch, Director of Development at the Franklin Food Pantry. "The space they have generously is essential to keeping our operations running and the community fed."

Throughout April, all Rockland Trust branches, which for the first time, included the communities of Arlington, Burlington, Chestnut Hill, Malden, Medford, Melrose, Somerville, and Woburn, collected non-perishable and canned food and other household items to replenish the shelves of pantries throughout Rockland Trust's service area.
