What is spoofing?

Spoofing occurs when a caller deliberately falsifies the information transmitted to your caller ID display to disguise their identity. This is often used to trick someone into giving away valuable personal information.

As a reminder:

  • Rockland Trust will never contact you and request information like account numbers, Social Security Numbers, passwords, or any other personal information.
  • You should not give out or confirm any personal information such as Account Numbers, Social Security Numbers, Passwords, Mother’s Maiden Name, Debit and/or Credit Card Numbers, or the Security Number associated with a debit or credit card unless YOU initiated the phone call.
  • Use caution if you are being pressured for information immediately or if there is a sense of urgency.
  • Do not respond to any questions, especially those that can be answered with "Yes" or "No".
