Boston, MA – August 13, 2019 – Rockland Trust, in partnership with the Wonderfund of Massachusetts, held a VIP concert at the Rockland Trust Bank Pavilion for children served by the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families (DCF). Participants enjoyed an interactive performance by the Blues SchoolHouse Band, courtesy of the Music Forward Foundation. Through song and narration, the performance took the kids on a musical journey through the history of the Blues and how it influenced American music and culture.

The event was staffed by volunteers from Rockland Trust’s senior leadership team through RockCorp, the Bank’s community volunteer program. RockCorp volunteers became concessioners for the day, managing everything from registration, to ushering and serving the kids lunch after the concert.

“Rockland Trust was thrilled to be able to bring this VIP concert experience to life for the kids. This unique musical performance was a great opportunity for them to learn and be inspired by the rich history of blues music,” said Jennifer Marino, Rockland Trust’s Chief Marketing and Communications Officer, and Wonderfund Board Member. “Partnering with organizations like the Wonderfund enables us to have a greater impact and further strengthen our relationship with our communities.”

Each of the kids left the concert with gifts, memories of a special experience, and a heightened understanding of the impact that blues music has had on American music and culture.

“DCF is grateful to Rockland Trust for making this unique experience possible,” said Michelle Banks, director of adolescent and young adult services. “Our kids were so excited to attend a performance at a major Boston concert venue and learning about the history behind some of their favorite music.”

Earlier this summer the Rockland Trust Charitable Foundation presented a $20,000 grant to the Wonderfund of Massachusetts for their camp support program, which helps children served by DCF experience the fun and engaging opportunities for growth at summer camp. The Rockland Trust Charitable Foundation has annually supported the Wonderfund’s summer campership program since 2016.
