Rockland Trust Charitable Foundation Grants $100,000 to Old Colony YMCA For their Capital Campaign

Brockton, MA – June 14, 2021 – The Rockland Trust Charitable Foundation announces a $100,000 grant to the Old Colony YMCA in support of the Capital Campaign to renovate the Youth Division building in Brockton. In addition to this grant, Rockland Trust provided a $1 million construction loan to the Old Colony YMCA to start these renovations. The renovation of this building currently holds a wide range of programming for the youth of Brockton and, once complete, it will provide programming for youth in a state-of-the-art after-school hub serving hundreds of Brockton-area students.

“Now more than ever, families are in need of safe, affordable, quality child care options,” said Vincent Marturano, President & CEO of Old Colony YMCA. “The generous support of Rockland Trust will not only improve access to critical services, but it also represents an important investment in downtown Brockton.”

The renovation project will restructure a ground-level unused pool area into four new communal bathrooms, two new classrooms, and an open floor plan multi-purpose space including a new interactive indoor playground. The project will also allow for upgrades in plumbing, fire protection, HVAC, and electrical that will be replaced with in new energy-efficient, code-compliant systems, green materials, and sustainable practices at the Youth Branch site.

The Old Colony YMCA also received funding from Massachusetts through the Early Education and Out of School Time grant. This grant, along with financing from Rockland Trust and other organizations, will enable the Youth Branch to provide full-time services to 90% of low-income youth and expand its program to 192 participants by January 2022.
