Always log off from any website after a purchase is made with your credit or debit card. If you cannot log off, close your browser to prevent unauthorized access to your account information.
In a recent twist, scam artists are using the phone to try to break into your computer. They call claiming to be computer techs associated with well-known companies like Microsoft. They say that they’ve detected viruses or other malware on your computer to trick you into giving them remote access or paying for software you don’t need.
Don’t reply to messages asking for personal or financial information.
Rockland Trust will never ask for your CVV code when discussing fraudulent activity or other matters concerning your debit card.
Have you changed your passwords in 2021 yet? If not, you should. Changing your passwords at least once per quarter — especially on sites containing credit card information — is important in preventing fraud. To further protect your personal information, don't forget to also change your password to your online banking account.
Be careful when entering card information into apps or gaming systems. If card information is stored, this makes it extremely easy for accidental/automatic purchases to occur. Most apps have the option to turn “in game” purchases off. Paying for online gaming services (i.e. Xbox Live) is made more secure and easier with purchasing yearly subscription cards or gift cards.
When out and about, keep your personal information safe and do not leave your debit cards, checks, wallets, purses etc. visible in your car.
We will never call you and ask for your full social security number or PIN number. If someone calls asking for this information saying they are from Rockland Trust, hang up and call our Customer Information Center at 508.732.7072.
Do not ever agree to deposit a check for someone and then send money back to them.
Call the organization from a known number regarding an unsolicited or unknown email to confirm the communication you received is valid.
