Taunton, MA (November 29, 2017) – The South Eastern Economic Development (SEED) Corporation has selected Gerard Nadeau, President of Rockland Trust Company as the "Regional Business Advocate of the Year". The award was presented at SEED's 35th Annual Meeting on Wednesday, November 29, in Westport, Ma.
“It is our pleasure to present the Regional Business Advocate of the Year award to Gerry Nadeau for his role in the growth of Rockland Trust Company over the last 33 years, and his commitment to many community organizations which have an impact on the region’s economic development," stated Maria Gooch-Smith, SEED’s
executive director.
Earlier this year, Gerry Nadeau was appointed President of Rockland Trust in recognition of his role in the success of the bank’s commercial banking division. Since 1984, Gerry has served the bank in a variety of capacities, and in the last 10 years as executive vice president in charge of commercial lending.
Gerry has served on the SEED Board of Directors for the last 10 years. From 2013 to 2016, he served as SEED chairman. In addition to SEED, Gerry is active in many community organizations. He is the chairman of the Metro South Chamber of Commerce, and the president of the Southeastern Mass Affordable Housing Group.
Gerry is also a board member of the Brockton Boys and Girls Club, a member of the executive committee for development at Stonehill College, and a member of the executive committee of the Old Colony YMCA.
From one branch in 1907, Rockland Trust Company has grown to nearly 90 branches and 11 commercial lending centers with 50 commercial lenders providing financing up to $100 million to small businesses and commercial enterprises. The bank is one of the most active U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) lenders in Massachusetts and in 2016 was named the SBA’s Lender of the Year to Construction.
Rockland Trust Community Development Corporation provides loans and investments to low income communities in MA and RI under the New Markets Tax Credit Program of the U.S. Department of the Treasury. So far, it has received four awards totaling $191 million, and has made 195 business loans and financial counseling investments totaling $220 million and assisting in the creation of 5,220 jobs.
SEED is a non-profit corporation certified in late 1982 by the SBA. SEED provides financing ranging from a $1,000 micro loan to a $5.5 million SBA 504 loan to small businesses in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. In 2017, SEED made 75 loans totaling $21.6 million and creating 383 new jobs.
SEED’s directors and members represent small businesses, financial institutions, local officials and community organizations.
