Hanover, MA (June 1, 2020) –Rockland Trust has launched its 12th annual Reading Makes Cent$ program, a reading and financial literacy initiative for students across the bank’s network of 95 branches. This year, the initiative has been expanded to include Worcester, following the opening of Rockland Trust’s first retail branch in the city in February.
Reading Makes Cent$ aims to boost literacy and financial responsibility for students during the summer months. Running June 1 through August 31, the program allows students to earn money by tracking their summer reading in a journal where they can draw a picture or write about the book they read. Last year, more than 2,000 children participated, reading roughly 20,000 books in total. Rockland Trust contributed over $50,000 to reward the students’ accomplishments.
“We’re excited to open up the 12th year of the Reading Makes Cent$ program and to invite the Worcester community to participate in what’s become a summer tradition at Rockland Trust,” said Margaret McCarthy, Senior Vice President of Retail Administration. “Reading and financial literacy are incredibly valuable skills to have, so practicing them at any early age will help the next generation grow and flourish.”

Participants and a parent or guardian can download an Reading Makes Cent$ Journal from RocklandTrust.com/ReadingMakesCent$ or pick up a journal from one of our branches through the drive-up.
