Rockland Trust-Blue Hills Charitable Foundation Provides $10,000 Grant to DOVE Inc. to Support Its Domestic Violence Prevention, Education, and Community-Based Services

Quincy, MA – July 26, 2021 – The Rockland Trust-Blue Hills Charitable Foundation awarded $10,000 to DOVE (Domestic Violence Ended) Inc. to support its preventative and responsive services for individuals impacted by domestic and partner violence in Norfolk County. DOVE mitigates the impact of domestic violence by empowering survivors to make safe, well-informed decisions for themselves and their children, and to take supported steps toward healing and self-sufficiency. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, DOVE has experienced a surge in requests for services which has continued as state and local restrictions lift.

“We are honored to support DOVE and its mission to provide safety, hope, and recovery for domestic violence survivors in local communities,” said Edward H. Seksay, President and Chair of the Rockland Trust-Blue Hills Charitable Foundation. “DOVE’s education and prevention services are critical to stopping domestic violence before it occurs. We are proud to partner with them to create space for healing and advocacy.”

DOVE believes everyone has the right to live without fear of abuse and supports 9,000 community members annually. The organization’s work began in 1978 when it opened as the first domestic violence shelter and hotline on the South Shore. It maintains three broad program models within its organizational structure: a residential 18-bed emergency shelter for supportive refuge; community-based services for crisis prevention, safety planning, and legal advocacy; and community education including YouthSpeak, a healthy relationship education and abuse prevention program for teens, and trainings for law enforcement, health care professionals, schools, businesses, social service providers, and religious organizations to raise awareness and prevent domestic violence.

“The numbers of victims reaching out for DOVE’s help over the past 16 months, deeply punctuated by the impacts of the public health pandemic, have increased significantly, and those who connect with us are in situations of much greater danger,” said Sue Chandler, Executive Director at DOVE Inc. “This critical support from Rockland Trust helps to ensure DOVE is able to respond and work with victims and survivors to achieve greater safety and stability. We are deeply grateful for this support.”

Domestic violence is the leading cause of injury to women 15 to 44 years of age (CDC), and nearly one in three women in Massachusetts have experienced rape, physical violence, and/or stalking by an intimate partner (National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey, 2010).
